Lately in Scotland

It's been a while, I know. So I'll start from the beginning. The first three months were tough. After going through a breakup everything looks grey and sad. Starting a new job in a new country had its bad moments too. And the weather... the weather just made everything worse. There was hardly a day when it didn't rain. There was no way for making plans outside: it was frustrating.

We tried going to the beach once. Everything was perfect: great weather, beautiful walk to the beach, a desert beautiful beach, cold water yes, but I really didn't care at that time. I was so desperate to live in Scotland something that barely resembled my life in Portugal that I tried ignoring that I was actually bathing in the North Sea - there were seals playing around us, it was freezing cold to say the truth. But it didn't matter. And then, suddenly, pouring rain. We had just enough time to gather our clothes and start walking towards the car, which was still a half an hour walking distance from the beach. It was the first of the three tentatives to go to the beach here. I'm not even going to bother describing the other two.

And then I found the mountains. I started going for long walks in the mountains, most of them in the Cairngorms National Park, right in the middle of the Highlands. I don't just walk, I get lost sometimes, which is scary but I guess it's ok because everything is so beautiful.

I also moved from my first flat, a simple, frugal one, to another one, with a great kitchen, really comfortable and warm, right next door to my dear friends and just a few minutes from the beach. Work started to fall into place as well, and little by little my life came back on track. And now, I don't know why, but I couldn't be happier. Even knowing that I'm not living in my favourite city, and I'm not passionate about my work, and the weather is still pretty miserable...

It's the little things, you know?
